Your driver will pick you up at your ship at 8:00AM and will take you to Paestum.
Paestum dates back to 650 BC when, under the name POSEIDONIA, was founded by the Greeks. In 270 DC the town became a Roman Colony and was renamed as PAESTUM. The fall of the Roman Empire marked the decline of the city of Paestum, which led to an epidemic of malaria and made the inhabited territory swampy.
The old city ruins were discovered in 1750 thanks to the excavations for the construction of a new road. The main attractions of this site are three Doric temples dating from around 500 BC that are considered as the best preserved in all the Magna Graecia:
- The temple of Athena
- The temple of Apollo
- The temple of Hera
You can also visit the archaeological museum which contains all the artifacts found during the excavations of the city, including the famous TOMB OF THE DIVER found in a Necropolis outside the city.
Second stop of the tour is Pompeii, nowadays considered the most important archaeological site in Europe.
After the visit of Pompeii your driver will take you back to the ship.
